ZIG ZAG had a good trip to Peel, Isle of Man from 10-13th of August 2017. The highlight of the trip was a visit by a large pod of bottle nosed dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) off the west coast of the Isle of Man on our way to Peel - see videos below.
On the trip back no dolphins were sited, but 2 harbour porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) showed themselves briefly, as did a Fin Whale (Balaeanoptera physalus).
Bird life was plentiful, with many Manx Shearwaters, Guillemots and Razorbills with chicks, Fulmars and a notable sighting of a pair of Arctic Skuas (Stercorarius parasiticus).
Fin whales have been spotted very close up before by ZIG ZAG, most notably in September 2015 about 4 miles off Clogherhead, County Louth. A pod of 3-4 were followed for a couple of hours accompanied by an incredible amount and variety of different seabirds, including Tern chasing Skuas.
...and here are some pictures of the trip....
