Fresh Carlingford Oysters...on your doorstep....
ZIG ZAG skipper is pictures with 60 oysters collected by himself and Damian McCartan on a recent large spring tide at low water.
These are the native oyster, Ostrea edulis , rather than the introduced Portuguese oyster, Crassostrea vulgaris , grown commercially in Carlingford Lough.
These native oysters are much bigger, full of flesh and tastier, but are slightly slower growing and more susceptible to disease. And there are plenty of them...if you know where and when to look....
