ZIG ZAG returns to Warrenpoint
On a cold and misty day in early April, ZIG ZAG left her winter moorings at the Quays, Newry Basin, and headed back to Warrenpoint, via Newry Canal.
Crewing ZIG ZAG were the skipper, Steve, Daithi, Damian and the ship's dog, Buster.
ZIG ZAG now joins ARES at Warrenpoint as one of the first two RED STAR BC vessels ready for the season ahead...
Newry Basin moorings...
Heading down towards the Lock Gates...and the sea...or 'not see'...
Victoria Lock spotted ahead...
....inside the Lock...
.......ready for pirates.....
Outside gates ready to open....
Stevie putting the sprayhood on....
...Open Sesame...
Here we go, out to the sea via Narrow Water....
Stevie daydreaming...and admiring the view ...
Looking back to the closing Lock gates....
starboard and ports buoys ahead....
...Narrow Water castle looms out of the mist....
...with its attendant wrecks....
...and the mist obliges and clears for an instant as we pass Narrow Water castle...
....leaving the Narrow Water and heading up to Warrenpoint Docks and the open sea...
...with Buster on lookout duty...
....inside ZIG ZAG's cabin....
Passing by 'Arklow Venturer' at Warrenpoint Docks....
....and the maritime graveyard...
A big thanks to Stevie, Daithi, Buster and the official photographer, Damian 'Muirin' McCartan - who took all photos and somehow managed to stay out of every one....
